Akpabio Lists Lawmakers With NDDC Contracts

The Minister in charge of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has given the names of lawmakers allegedly awarded contracts by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Those named include a former House Committee Chairman on the NDDC, Nicholas Mutu, from Bomadi/Patani Constituency of Delta State, his counterpart in the Senate, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (Delta-North), James Manager (Delta-South), Samuel Anyanwu (Imo-West, 8th Senate), Senator Matthew Urhoghide (Edo-South) and two others he simply named as Ondo and Edo Reps.

Mr. Akpabio while appearing before the House Committee investigating the activities of the NDDC, had claimed that the commission awarded contracts to members of the National Assembly, an allegation that turned the session rowdy.

The House of Representatives earlier had threatened to sue the minister over the allegations that federal lawmakers were awarded  major contractors of NDDC. This list released my Akpabio is a direct response to the threat.

Speaker of The House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, had last week also issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Akpabio to list lawmakers that are awarded contracts from the NDDC.

Akpabio initially responded to the speaker denying making such allegations.

Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi however descrived Akpabio as "a confused man".

“He (Akpabio) is confused. I challenge him to publish the directors and shareholders of these companies. I don’t award contract and I don’t pay for contracts. My brother, go to CAC and find out the truth. I pity him,” Nwaoboshi said.
