Youth in Nigeria urged to embrace the opportunities in agricultural business world
An agricultural entrepreneur, Mr Oluwole Azeez, has urged Nigerian youths to recognise opportunities in farming and embrace the trade rather than roaming the street.
Oluwole, founder of FarmKonnect Agribusiness Nigeria, stated this during the inauguration of ‘Wave City,’ an agricultural project aimed at promoting food sufficiency, national development and agricultural inclusion.
He said the mission of the project is to take agriculture beyond just planting and making money, but a business that promotes food sufficiency, national development, as well as agricultural inclusion.
The farmer therefore advised youths to align themselves with the current trend in the agricultural sector by recognising the opportunities in the industry.
He said: “Youths should align now to stop looming hunger. With the youth population that we have, sub-Saharan Africa should not be a malnourished region on the planet.
The vision is to build 1,000,000 square metres of greenhouses. A controlled farming environment technology using greenhouses and net houses to produce fruits and leafy vegetables from tomatoes to pepper.
He appreciated the Osun State government for its support to the project, assuring them of greater benefits in terms of food sufficiency and job creation.
While speaking on behalf of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, Mr Adewole Adedayo, the state Commissioner for Agriculture affirmed that every responsible government must create enabling environment for farmers, describing the project as one of its kind in the state the and south-west region.
Also, Dr Bosade Ogunlana, the founder, Entrepreneurship Initiative, lauded the firm on the project, saying it would help in empowering the youth.
